Newcastle Building Society has always supported its local communities - and this commitment will only strengthen following the merger with Universal.

Each year the Newcastle donates around £100,000 to a mix of grass-roots charities and voluntary organisations. As a mutual it believes it has a responsibility to try and make life a little easier for those who may need some help.

These are values the Society clearly shares with Universal, which is why Newcastle Building Society will continue to support many of the key community projects that Universal initiated. Among these is the highly successful Seven Stories, the Centre for Children’s Books, which was launched as a three-year joint initiative between Universal and Arts and Business. Now in its second year, children from schools in the North East, Cumbria and Northumberland, have been enjoying tales from storytellers who use art, animation and performance to engage and entertain their young audience.

Not only do we give out around £100,000 a year to worthwhile charities through our Community Foundation, but also allow members to donate to charity themselves through our recently launched Members Community Fund.
